Thanks to your donations, we have been able to fund annual swimming memberships for Simon and his mum, Catherine, in West Yorkshire.
Simon contracted meningitis in 1979, which resulted in an acquired brain injury and significant learning difficulties.

He has been supported by Meningitis Now for many years and has regular contact with our Supporter Care team and Community Support Officers. After spending many years living in supported accommodation, Simon is now back living with his mum, Catherine, who has recently become his sole carer, looking after him 24/7.
Your support has enabled Simon to enjoy swimming as a form of exercise and a way to spend time outside the house. Simon's mum told us: “Simon feels it will help him physically as he is
overweight. He enjoys swimming as his form of exercise, as it is light on his joints. Simon also feels that swimming is a big stress reliever for him.”
In addition, we have been able to support Catherine with her own swimming membership.
This means she can accompany Simon when he wants to swim, while also having the flexibility to attend classes herself and enjoy some valuable time away from her caring responsibilities.
Catherine shared: “The swimming membership will not only help me physically and mentally but will also give me and Simon something to do together that will be good for our health. I can also go by myself if/when Simon is taking part in other classes/courses. This will give me a little respite. As I have recently become Simon’s sole carer, swimming is a time I can relax
and focus on myself.”
